The New Balance: Jenene Crossan
Founding and managing an online hair and beauty booking hub means those all-important salon appointments are an integral part of Jenene's job. "Surprisingly it's sometimes hard to find time to do it all, but it must be done. I always feel amazing after," she says.
The 35-year-old digital empress has founded five digital businesses, including her first, at the age of 22. For her, life's essentials include a job she is passionate about, an amazing working team, daily exercise ("It's where I get my mental strength and inspiration from"), a healthy sex life, a gluten-free diet (she recently found out she was allergic to wheat) and her wonderful friends, partner and three children who surround her with "a lot of love and laughter".
She also believes in making time for fun, including "playing games, being childlike, dancing around the house like a mad woman, running in the rain, and driving a huge pink truck".
Her ideal day would include lounging by the pool with her family and a great book, or taking time out from the internet in Waihi.
"I try really hard to not let a 'busy' life be stressful, I am the maker of my own lifestyle and for 95 per cent of the time I am exactly where I want to be (allowing 5 per cent for being a human being with hormones, I am allowed to have my moments!)."
JENENE'S ESSENTIALS
Last week I had a Nimue facial from Amari in Albany, and my skin felt just fantastic afterwards. Susan, the owner, has a wonderful technique and is so kind.
I'm watching House of Cards in a binge-like fashion at the moment. Kevin Spacey is super in this series. He's nailed the cunning politician and, boy, it's a bit of an eye opener.
I couldn't live without my brows being groomed to within an inch of their life - Off Wax is most popular [waxing salon].
The ethos and food at Little Bird in Ponsonby are simply outstanding. I love how they've created something that you can guarantee will make your body sing.
My naughty weaknesses are the same as everybody else's - the three Cs: chocolate, champagne and cheese.
Sex! Yes, I said it! A balanced life needs a good amount of loving.
I listen to a lot of TEDx talks while I'm running. I find them a great way to get my head out of the day-to-day and into new ideas.
I am part of a boot camp two to three times a week. Trainer Richard Ellis is so passionate about what he does. Plus [I do] a TRX strength training class and I run on the other days.
One of my favourite Flossie salons is Servilles in Takapuna. I'm very lucky to get my hair blow-dried three times a week. I've got unruly curly hair and these guys help me stay on top of it.
I'm reading Elizabeth Gilbert's new novel, The Signature of All Things, it's a great "light, but interesting" read for tuning out of my world and into someone else's for a while.
