Accessorising for winter
So summery dresses are out and chunky knitwear is in - and anyone who decides to go against that advice for the next few months is either brave, or just plain silly (or possibly both).
As the winter chills dictate what we wear between now and March - if not longer - how can you make sure that the weather has less of a say in your daily attire? While it might be nice to feel snug as a bug in a rug wrapped up in your faux-fur coat just like everyone else, you still want to retain that sense of individuality, right?
The answer is simple - accessorise. And the good news is there are plenty of ways you can do so while remaining bang on trend throughout the colder months.
Monochrome clutch bags
Monochrome is huge this winter. Heavily featuring at Paris, New York, Milan and London fashion weeks back in September - if it ain't black and white, it ain't worth a second look.
Clutch bags are also very popular at the moment, with many more people now choosing to take them out for everyday use as opposed to just special occasions.
As a result, there are some really exciting styles and sizes to pick from and monochrome ones especially will ensure that you will stand out from the crowd.
If you want to extend the theme even further, this monochromatic ladies' Storm watch would complement your clutch perfectly.
Men's-style shoes
Brogues or pumps are the best things to go for in the footwear department.
Flats are definitely on-trend this season and wearing so-called "boyfriend shoes" gives a great twist on this look.
One piece of advice would be to opt for pastel-coloured shoes rather than those in bolder tones, while another tip would be to make sure that you team it up with more feminine attire like dresses to really pull off the look with good effect.
Chain jewellery
Jewellery-wise, there's plenty to choose from over winter, however, chain necklaces and bangles are where it seems to be at - and the chunkier the better.
This was another look seen plenty of times over September's fashion weeks and one of the great things about it is that there are so many different variations you can have while still sticking to the general theme.
For example, chunky chain bracelets can be stacked up together on a single wrist, or you may choose to wear a similar necklace around your hair to hold it back - a look which was, again, showcased recently on the runway.
In terms of colour, gold is certainly the in-thing, although monochrome is another style which has crept into this department as well.
Embellished belts
Refinery 29 recently referred to embellished belts as "jewellery for your waist" and that's pretty much how this one goes.
An ideal way to dress up a plain-looking outfit, wearing a bold belt with a design that's a bit different is the perfect way to spruce up any wardrobe and will ensure that, when you do end up removing your outer layer of clothing, you're still making a seasonal, fashionable statement.
