FOR HER

Trends to rock: "Trends which are big this party season are capes, embellished jackets, crop tops and voluminous skirts. Sequin tops and crop tops paired with knee length skirts or palazzo pants are selling like hotcakes," says designer Swati Goradia. But the options don't cease here. "Outfits with stripes, bodycon dresses, high waist skirts or high waist calf length pleated skirts can be teamed with sexy crop tops or one can opt for peplum tops teamed with figure hugging pants," says designer Kalgi Shah.

Mix-n-match: Mixing old trends with new ones, saves moolah. Teaming a biker jacket on a crop top and jeans with boots makes you party ready instantly. Last season's jumpsuits, tunics, maxi dresses, peplums, knee length skirts, quirky printed jackets are here to stay. Colours like blues, pastels, monochrome along with jewel tones like ruby, burgundy or green. Colour blocking also works wonders.

Must-have essentials: "Party essentials such as earcuffs, statement neckpieces, handcuff and cocktail rings are must haves. Teaming a simple pair of jeans and top can be a saviour. Collarless coats are a must," suggests Kalgi. Deepak adds, "Shimmery tops, black skirts, black shoes or boots and long chains with quirky pendants and dangler earrings are must haves."

Budget saviours: "Invest in classic pieces that won't fizzle out such as LBDs, or pastel/floral jackets, crop tops or even a great pair of heels, as these pieces will be in vogue for the coming seasons too. Quirky baubles, boots - knee length and ankle length will always be in demand during New Year parties," says Swati.

Last minute fixes: Opt for right cuts and fits and pep them with statement jewellery and a defined makeup with bold lip colour. Crop tops, skirts, peplum, bodycons and jackets can be great last minute saviours.

FOR HIM

Trends to rock: Being different is the new black for this party season, opines designer Deepak Golani. "Play a little with colours. Opt for bright coloured pants with a neutral or earthy coloured shirt and add a scarf; you are ready for the party," says Deepak. "Men can also opt for bandhgala waist coats, which can be teamed with linen shirts or even party shirts. Also a solid coloured Nehru jacket worn on slim fit pants and full sleeved shirt looks sauve and elegant," says Swati.

Mix-n-match: "Last season's quirky printed tees are still in. Team formals shirts with jeans and a jacket in solid or pastel colours. Jeans that are tattered with tees teamed with mufflers or scarves make a smart choice. Opt for pencil fitted trousers in checks and add a vest on the tee or a shirt. Adding light cardigans on jeans is a good option in winters," says Kalgi Shah.

Must-have essentials: Deepak suggests a stylish fitted coloured trouser, solid coloured shirt, printed t-shirts, scarves and pointed party shoes are the party essentials. Other must have party essentials are "formal vests along with boots, collar bows, oversized or printed scarves that pep up a look instantly," adds Kalgi.

Budget saviours: Bandhgala or Nehru jackets, fitted trousers, accessories like watches, boots, can be usually be found in your/or your parent's closet, which will help you save on your budget and look elegant. Quirky prints on scarves and tees are here to stay, so you can stock them up for future parties.

Last minute fixes: Quirky printed tees with tattered pants and scarf are a sure shot way to look party ready in a jiffy. Adding jackets or vest on jeans and tees combination work well.
