clutches Texas designer at Golden Globes
Among the happiest people watching the Golden Globes Sunday night were Houstonians Minnie Baird and her business partner Hallie Kuntz. The owners of Baird & Baird were thrilled to see Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke appearing on the red carpet carrying a pale pink clutch from their handbag line.
The python clutch with a mother of pearl clasp, which retails for $595 and was designed by Baird, complemented Clarke's black-and-white custom embroidered strapless gown by Proenza Schouler.
Last week, Clarke's stylist, Kate Young, contacted trusted sources, including Studio Communciations fashion public relations whiz Gail Rubin, for a variety of clutches for the first big awards show of the season. Young, who created a buzzed-about accessories collection for Target last year, has topped the Hollywood Reporter's list of most powerful stylists.
There was no guarantee that Young would choose the clutch for any of her clients until the moment Clarke walked onto the red carpet. And it was, in fact, a last-minute decision.
In a fashion diary for the New York Times, Young said she decided on the clutch — the only light-colored one among her options — while jogging through Beverly Hills on Sunday morning. "While thinking about the mixture of graphic prints and soft colors and textures at the Chloé pre-fall presentation, I decided to have Emilia carry a pale-pink Baird & Baird bag with her black-and-white dress," she wrote.
"We are thrilled to have one of our clutches carried on the red carpet at the Golden Globes last night by none other than Emilia Clarke. It's wonderful to be represented by such a poised, beautiful actress," Baird said in an email.
